Services and Pricing
Information and Pricing from 1st February 2026
We aim to keep the pricing of our service as reasonable as we can – as registered allied health care professionals we are bound to follow set criteria to be able to practise our profession. We need to have insurance and professional registrations in place along with keeping our practice up to date with a set amount of continued professional development (CPD/training) every year. We need to maintain our assessments and equipment to make sure it is clean and safe to be used between appointments. These costs are factored into the services we offer.
Mileage
Mid Cornwall Speech and Language Therapy chooses to work in environments that children and young people feel most comfortable in – this provides the most realistic view of communication strengths and needs and allows us to provide bespoke advice for your situation. For this reason, we do not have a clinic space and all appointments are carried out either at home or in an education setting. With Cornwall being a rural area, and to keep our services as cost effective as possible, we add an additional mileage/travel charge of 45p per mile for the return journey to your visit to cover our travel time and costs.
Assessment Types
We offer different assessment packages based on your child/young person’s needs. If you are unsure which assessment suits your situation the best, please request a free initial phone call where we can discuss the options with you.
We do not offer autism and ADHD diagnostic services although can provide information from our speech and language therapy assessments to support a diagnostic process.

Key Service Terms and Conditions
A more detailed version of terms and conditions will be provided for you to agree and sign at the time of appointment booking.
Payment
Payment for the initial appointment(s)/review appointments is requested before, or on the day of the appointment. An invoice will be sent once an appointment date is booked. For families who have regular appointments, invoices will be sent at the end of each calendar month for appointment(s) that you have received during that month. Payment is requested to be made within 7 days of receiving the invoice. Appointment frequency will always be agreed with you before any appointments commence. If you are having difficulty meeting payment, please arrange to speak to us to discuss this.
Payment via insurance
We can work with insurance companies who cover the cost of assessment but we are unable to subscribe to any payment systems that the insurance company provide that involve additional costs for our business. We can either submit the invoices directly to the insurance company to pay, or you as parents/carers can pay the invoice and then submit a claim to your insurance company. Before booking an appointment, please check with your insurance company that they can accept this method.
Cancellations made by families
Mid Cornwall Speech and Language Therapy does not currently charge for cancellations made by families – we understand that emergencies and illness happen. We will aim to reschedule your appointment as soon as we can. We can only be in the position not to charge for appointments cancelled by families if this happens infrequently and for genuine reasons. We are a small business so losing income has an effect on our overall prices and services that we offer. We ask families to give us as much notice as possible if an appointment needs to be cancelled or changed so there is the opportunity to offer the appointment time to someone else.
Cancellations made by therapists
You will be given as much notice as possible if the therapist needs to cancel and rearrange your appointment due to an unexpected event such as an emergency or illness.
What happens at an assessment?
Before an initial assessment, a pre-assessment questionnaire will be sent to you to be completed and returned before the appointment. The information in this questionnaire will help to plan your child’s/young person’s assessment and may be included if you choose to have a written report from the assessment.
It is preferrable to carry out initial assessments at home although we can arrange to visit an educational setting if required. If an assessment is carried out in an educational setting, the setting will need to agree to provide a quiet undisturbed space for us to work if required.
Assessments for younger children are carried out at your child’s pace through play and, sometimes, more structured motivating activities. For older children, time is spent building rapport and using the child’s/young person’s interests before more structured assessment tasks may be carried out. Towards the end of the assessment, a discussion will take place about the findings of the assessment, recommendations for the future and explanation and modelling of any advice or strategies that are recommended. For older children/young people, sometimes it is more appropriate to arrange a telephone/video conversation with the parent/carer after the appointment.
We are always happy to answer questions and take time to talk through any aspect of your child’s communication you are unsure about. After assessment is completed, the information gathered will be discussed with you along with options for any further support. There is no obligation to continue with speech and language therapy with us after your initial assessment.
