I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2001 and worked for the NHS in Cornwall for 19 years before leaving to working independently.

During my time as a Speech and Language Therapist, I have supported children and young people with a wide variety of speech, language and communication needs including:

• Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and Language Disorder/differences associated with other conditions
• Gestalt Language Processing
• Autism
• Social Communication Needs

• AAC – Augmentative and Alternative Communication
• Communication needs associated with Learning Disability
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
• Experience of trauma and attachment and associated communication needs

I have supported children and young people with complex needs, both at preschool and school age, and have experience of working in mainstream and specialist education settings and people’s homes. I worked as a preschool specialist for over 10 years.

I have additional training and experience in the areas of trauma, attachment and social, emotional and mental health in young people with speech, language and communication needs. I work in partnership with Cardrew Court school and Three Bridges School in Cornwall, providing support for students and training/support for staff.

I qualified as a specialist literacy practitioner and dyslexia assessor in 2024 and provide these services alongside speech and language therapy.

I have a functional approach to therapy and work with children, young people and their families to find out their priorities for developing communication skills and help form a plan together to address these in way that fits with the family life, in a fun and motivating way.
